On Tuesday, April 22nd just before 1pm, we were dispatched for a structural protection assignment in regard to the “Jones Rd Wildfire” in neighboring Ocean Township. Our crew (Engine 6151 & Chief 6110) was initially assigned to a task force to protect structures along Wells Mill Rd and reassigned to various locations in Ocean Twp and ultimately back to the Pheasant Run section of Lacey Township.
When it was confirmed that the wildfire was going to cross the Garden State Parkway, our remaining crews were (Chief 6100, Rescue 6113, Ladder 6105 & Utility 6127) deployed to the area of the Lacey Business Park, where they worked in conjunction with other strike teams that were deploying to the same area. All crews operated until approximately 4am Wednesday morning.
Wednesday morning at approximately 8:30am, we were dispatched along with
Forked River Fire Department for a structure fire and assisted with fire attack & overhaul before being cleared by Command. 6100, 6110, 6151, 6105 & 6113 all operated on scene. Immediately following the conclusion of this incident, Engine 6151 was reassigned to the Jones Rd Wildfire again for a possible structural protection assignment, where they operated until approximately 2pm.
While we would like to thank the outpouring of support and donations to our department during this historic wildfire, we would be remiss to not recognize our residents and local businesses that suffered during this time. Our thoughts are with
Liberty Door & Awning, who unfortunately lost their warehouse.
